Our summer vacation began with a visit to Washington D.C. We had a great time exploring sites, trying new restaurants and visiting with the Hafflett family. Below is as a recap of everything we did as well as photos of our visit to D.C.
Saturday 7/29: After arriving and catching a quick nap at the hotel we had a late lunch at Gordon Biersch before visiting Ford Theater. We learned a lot about Lincoln's presidency as well as the night he was assassinated. We walked around National Mall for a bit before meeting up with the Haffletts for dinner at Capitol City Brewing. Then we had dessert and drinks at The Loft / Hamilton, where the kids had some AMAZING milkshakes.
Sunday 7/30: We started the day with Mass at St. Patrick's Catholic Church and then walked to the Capitol. We later visited the Smithsonian where we met up with the Hafflett family again and toured the Natural History Museum and the American History Museum. After that we went to the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial. We saw the White House along the way. After a long day of walking we returned to our hotel and ate dinner at Fire and Sage.
Monday 7/31: We began by having breakfast at Founding Farmers, a restaurant highly recommended by Gina's gymnastics teacher. The food was AWESOME! After breakfast, we visited the National Archives and Newseum before heading to our appointment for a Capitol Tour. The tour was really cool and we learned a lot. After that we visited the Botanic Garden before heading back to the hotel for some relaxing pool time. That night we had dinner at Pi Pizzeria.
Tuesday 8/1: We started the day off at Pret A Manger for breakfast before heading to the Spy Museum. This was one of the highlights of our trip. It was really fun learning about tactics and devices used by spies and the James Bond exhibit was really cool. After that we went to Shake Shack, for the first time ever and the kids loved it. Next we went to the Art Museum Sculpture Garden and the National Gallery of Art, where Alex nearly knocked over the sculpture of The Thinker! After that we went back to Newseum (we had 2 day passes and there was a LOT to see) and then we went to dinner at Capitol City Brewing once again.
Wednesday 8/2: We got up early and caught a train to New York City.
